Plebeians and Patricians

In Roman society, there were two main social classes. The patricians and the plebeians. Patricians were the wealthy and powerful Romans. They were the only ones able to have places in the government and constantly made unfair decisions that only benefitted themselves. The plebeians were the less wealthy Romans who were artisans, merchants, etc. who couldn't hold positions of power. Because of the patrician's unfair advantages when it came to politics, plebeians were able to elect tribunes. Tribunes were people who protected plebeian rights when it came to unfair laws. Plebeians also pushed for the Twelve Tables to be created. These were tablets with written laws on them. They were hung up in the forums (Roman center of government) and the written laws prevented patricians from altering the laws for their benefit. The social classes of plebeians and patricians are very similar to the social classes in Ancient Greece. Before democracy in Greece, the rich people in society held mo...

Essay Question

My essay question will be "What happened during the Persian War and how did the Greeks defeat such a large army?" The first paragraph in my essay will mention information about the Persians and their reasoning for wanting to conquer Athens. The Persians were ruled by The Great King Darius under a tyranny and wanted to conquer Athens because it would allow them to gain more power than one of the most successful city-states in Greece. The next paragraph will be about the first Greek win. When the Persians attacked for the first time, the Greeks were outnumbered 2:1. However, they were still able to defeat the Persians and kill 6,000 in the battle. The third paragraph will talk about Themistocles and his plan to defeat the Persians if they attacked again with more power. Themistocles created the trireme which helped improve Athens' navy. This was a large, heavy duty ship that could smash into other ships and destroy them. However, the ship was expensive. But, a vein of silve...

Poem about Grecian Plays

Throughout the world is sorrow  We must find a new distraction How do we look forward to tomorrow Spark a new reaction Distract your exhausted mind Go see a show There are many a kind The jokes and stories will help you grow Even in the hard times Comedies leave the audience reeling Tragedies contain many crimes They spark a new feeling Even if the show comes off as odd The seats and costumes beam with glory The audience waits, no longer flawed They can't wait to hear the story

Grecian Architecture

Image
This is an Ancient Greek temple honoring the god Zeus. This used to be the largest temple in Ancient Greece, having 104 columns. However, only 16 columns remain today after the temple became unused and people took its materials. At the top of the columns are beautiful grecian artwork. The columns are used on this temple for support and also decorative purposes. This is The Parthenon. The Parthenon is a building that was dedicated to the goddess Athena. The Parthenon is a very important building, its different elements of art and architecture such as the columns show breakthroughs in grecian art history. This building was also representative of the victories that the Greeks had over Persia. As you can see in the picture, most of it is still intact and it is surrounded by rocky ground.

Tragedies were plays containing themes about war, love, betrayal, and sadness. The tragedies contained a main character which was usually a tragic hero. A tragic hero is a person who has a flaw such as excessive pride that led to them failing in their mission in the play. Aeschylus, Sophocles, and  Euripides were the main authors of tragedies and they wrote over 180 plays. Comedies were the complete opposite of tragedies, they were plays containing loads of humor about things such as politics and even politicians themselves.
