The first learning objective we had to complete was to define cultural diffusion. Cultural diffusion is the process of spreading cultural traits from one region to another. This is just the general definition of cultural diffusion, however. There are five types of cultural diffusion that can occur. These are expansion which is when an innovation is created in a specific area and stays thriving in that area, but it spreads to other areas as well, relocation which is an idea that moves into new areas but leaves its original source of the innovation behind, hierarchical which is when an innovation moves from larger to smaller areas, not looking very much into the distance between these places, contagious diffusion which is when innovations and ideas are spread by person to person contact, and finally stimulus diffusion which spreads based on its connection to another previous innovation. There are examples of cultural diffusion both in history and today. One historical example of cultur...

Today's lesson strongly focused on globalization, how it's created, and how it connects to us personally. Globalization is the process of integration among people, companies, and governments worldwide. There are two processes that facilitate this. These are transportation and communication. Transportation can help facilitate globalization because it allows for people in different areas of the world to be more connected to each other easily instead of having to go on long, dangerous journeys (I.e. sailing ships over unpredictable oceans). When these people and areas are more connected, they can share ideas easily and promote globalization. Communication also helps facilitate globalization because it allows for ideas to be exchanged through the push of a button. Things like the internet are available in thousands of countries around the world, connecting everyone to one easy to navigate platform so everyone can share whatever they want, even if the person they're sharing it ...

For our first learning objective we had to define region, formal region, functional region, and vernacular region. The definition of region is an an area on the planet that is composed of places with unifying characteristics. There are multiple different types of regions. One of which is a formal region, which is a region that is unified by a common political entity with formally defined boundaries. For example, provinces, countries, and districts are all formal regions. Another type of region is a vernacular region. This is a region where it is not specifically bordered or defined on a map, but we see the similar characteristics of the region and using these, group them together in a mental map (ex. The Middle East isn't on any maps). Finally, a functional region is a central point inside defined boundaries with organized ways of transportation around the area to promote the movement of people, goods, and ideas (ex. New York City). These different regions are all very different ...

In today's learning objective we had to define multiple terms in order to understand how location is described by geographers. Location is a particular place or position. One of these terms was place, this is the physical and human aspects of a location and is also a theme of geography. This term is related to toponyms which are the names of a place, site which is the description of a places features, and situation which is a place's environmental conditions. These terms help to describe where a location is because it can help geographers know where a place is and what's around it so they can describe it in relation to the things around it or the places around it. They can also help to differentiate between different areas on Earth. The second learning objective was to identify and describe the three ways geographers describe location. These ways were actually defined in the terms above, they are toponyms, site, and situation. Geographers use toponyms in order to give a n...
