Caesar
Yes, I will be taking the test at 8:55-9:45 on June 2nd.
After the Punic Wars, the plebeians were treated very poorly so, Romans wanted free grain from the state and a source of entertainment (colosseum or circus) to keep them happy. Eventually, the plebeians were treated better as military generals such as Tiberius Gracchus attempted to court the plebeians in war to help them conquer and gain land. However, this was one factor that caused the fall of the Roman Republic because the soldiers were loyal to their military leaders instead of their country. Using this strategy, Caesar took advantage, he was a great general (conquered all of Gaul), allowing him to have the trust of the Romans. This trust led to Caesar forming a triumvirate with Pompey(a successful general) and Crassus (the richest man in Rome). Eventually, Caesar became more powerful. He became one of the consuls of Rome and became governor of Gaul. However, all the power Caesar was receiving made Pompey jealous causing many battles in Greece, Asia, Spain, and Egypt. After winning these battles, Caesar became the dictator of Rome in 44BC. As dictator, Caesar expanded the senate, made people in provinces citizens, he created many more jobs for the poor, increased the pay for soldiers, and started colonies so everyone could own property. However, all of these amazing reforms got Caesar nothing but death. Caesar was assassinated by some of the Roman senators who were threatened by him. They stabbed him 23 times in the Senate, even Caesar's friend Brutus participated. After the event, the senators got away with no consequences and Octavian became Caesar's heir. The assassination had brought an end to the Roman republic.
